The questions firms ask on demos, answered plainly.
Money, systems, payments, getting started. Every answer says whether it's Live, Beta, Coming, or something our team does for you.
Money
Where does the money go?
Checks are drawn on your own IOLTA, printed and mailed for you. Electronic payments leave your account and pass through a bank account held for the benefit of Disbo's customers at Cross River Bank for seconds, then land with the payee. Disbo never holds client funds.
Can Disbo take our fee automatically?
No. Money cannot leave a trust account without your signer; every payment, including your fee transfer, is released by a named signer with two-factor.
Who pays Disbo?
Your firm, from operating. Many firms pass the per-check cost to the client as a case cost where their state's rules allow. See pricing.
What does an electronic payee verification cost?
$1.80 once per payee for the identity check, billed to operating.
Is there a contract or an implementation fee?
Month to month, terms accepted on signup; no implementation fee; import included.
What insurance do you carry?
Cyber and e-crime coverage is bound; certificates on request.
What happens to our data if we stop?
Your money is in your bank and your books are in your accounting system. Disbo exports the record and sends what's queued or returns it.
Systems
Our bank doesn't allow ACH on the IOLTA.
Most don't by default. Your bank can whitelist Disbo as the only ACH originator on the account; or keep ACH off and send every payee a check.
QuickBooks Desktop?
A custom-built connection our team sets up for your company file.
Several entities, IOLTA accounts or QuickBooks files?
One Disbo organization holds every bank account and up to two accounting connections per entity; each case carries its trust and operating account. Routing cases to a specific file is set up with our team.
Our case numbers don't match between systems.
You need a case number in both. Disbo matches on case number first, then name and date of loss (about 80% on their own); our team clears the rest during setup.
Our case-system data is messy.
Payees can come from your accounting system's vendor list instead; our team builds the clean list with you.
Filevine or Clio already syncs to QuickBooks.
Those connectors are one way and stop at the entry. Disbo posts the payment, then writes the status and check image back to both.
Positive pay?
A daily file in your bank's layout, set up with our team. Direct bank connections are in build.
Can our bookkeeper or CPA press Pay?
Only a named signer can release money; your firm decides who that is, with the bank's signatory in mind. Bookkeepers usually prepare and view.
Payments
How fast do checks arrive?
Printed and mailed within 24–48 hours; delivered in 5–7 business days; every check tracked by USPS scan.
Who signs the check?
Your signer approves in Disbo; the signature image you provided is applied to the check only after that approval. Reviewed with compliance counsel and state bars.
Wrong payee or wrong amount?
Disbo gives you the check number and image the moment the check is drawn; you place the stop at your bank. Firms can add a 24-hour delay before checks are drawn.
Voids after the books are closed?
Disbo reissues from the row and gives you the void log; you post the reversal. Open-period voids post automatically.
A client wants a check today.
Print it yourself; mark it paid with the check number and it lands on the case.
Doctors won't take ACH.
Keep sending them checks. Each check carries an insert that lets them link a bank for next time.
Wires?
Sent at your bank and recorded on the case in Disbo.
Overnight or certified mail?
Not offered through Disbo; send those from the office and mark them paid.
Print a check in the office from Disbo?
Coming. Today, print from your books and mark it paid in Disbo.
Dual approval above a threshold?
Available on request; your firm sets the threshold.
W-9 collection?
Coming.
Reports and commissions?
Per-case history is Live; firm-wide exports are pulled by our team on request; the attorney commission report is Coming.
Interest on a cost line of credit?
Coming.
Getting started
How long does setup take?
Connecting takes an hour or two with our team; most firms send their first payment within two weeks; firms importing years of history plan on 30–45 days. See getting started.
Can we try one case first?
Yes. Send yourself a $1 check, then one real case with our team on the call.
Who needs to be on the calls?
Whoever has admin rights in your books, your case-system admin, and the person who prepares disbursements.
Do we need a case number in both systems?
Yes. It's the key across your case system, Disbo and your books.
Can we talk to a firm using Disbo?
Reference calls are arranged after a demo, with the firm's permission.
Who is behind Disbo?
Built by people who ran settlement disbursements at PI firms. See about.
