LOS ANGELES — September 14, 2026 — Disbo, the payments platform built for law firm trust-account disbursements, today announced support for operating-account case costs in the same controlled outbound-payment workflow. Firms can use Disbo for medical-record fees, police-report fees, court costs, expert deposits, lien payoffs, client distributions, and other approved payments while preserving the distinction between operating and trust accounts.
A large law firm described an operation processing approximately 10,000 checks per month. Disbo is sharing that volume anonymously as an operating example, not as a named-customer endorsement. At that scale, every printed check can require account selection, approval, mailing, matter updates, accounting entry, and exception handling.
A Connected Payment Record
Disbo categorizes each approved payment, keeps it tied to the applicable trust- or operating-account workflow, and delivers it through an available electronic option or a paper check printed and mailed through Lob. The applicable rail and timing depend on the recipient, bank setup, and firm configuration.
In supported configurations, Disbo writes payment information back to Filevine, Clio, CasePeer, and SmartAdvocate. QuickBooks write-back is also available where configured. The exact fields, direction of exchange, and automation depend on the firm’s product editions, permissions, mappings, and implementation. These product names describe supported interoperability and do not imply endorsement.
The case-management system remains the matter system, QuickBooks remains the accounting system, and the bank remains the source of funds. Disbo coordinates the approved payment record across those boundaries and does not hold client funds.
Responsibility Remains With the Firm
Disbo provides payment, recordkeeping, approval, and reconciliation controls that can support a firm’s processes. Requirements vary by jurisdiction. Compliance with state bar trust-accounting rules, account selection, legal judgment, accounting treatment, and supervision remain the responsibility of the firm.
Contingency-fee firms can join the waitlist to review their operating and trust payment workflows with Disbo. More detail is available in the accompanying resource article.
